Easy Carrot Pattern

 Originally, my plan this week was to make a more complex pattern, but it isn't ready yet.  Plan B is a an easy pattern for a play food carrot.

Cute Carrot Play Food

Materials

1oz orange worsted weight (size 4) yarn

0.5oz green worsted weight (size 4) yarn

1oz stuffing

3.25mm crochet hook

Yarn needle

Stitch marker or scrap yarn 

Abbreviations

• BLSC back loop single crochet: insert hook only in the back loop of the previous round when making the stitch
• CH chain
• SC single crochet
• SC2TOG single crochet two together (or decrease)
• SL ST slip stitch
• ST/STS stitch/es

Notes

This pattern in worked in a spiral, so you do not join rounds. Stitch counts are given at the end of each round. I use a scrap of yarn as a stitch marker at the end of rounds.

I like to work amigurumi with a lot of tension on my yarn. You can also use a smaller hook, but it may affect final size.

SC2TOG - I like to do an. invisible SC2TOG. Insert hook in front loop of each of the next two stitches. Yarn over, pull up loop leaving 2 loops on hook. Yarn over and pull through both loops.

Leaflet: CH 5, SL ST in 5th CH from hook. Leave a 3 inch tail on the slip knot and when fastening of too tie the leaves to the carrot

• CH 6, form a leaflet, CH 2, form 3 leaflets, skip The 3 leaflet sts, SL ST in 2 CH sts, form leaflet, skip leaflet sts, SL ST in last 6 CH sts. Fasten off.

1. CH 2, 6 SC in 2nd CH from hook (6 sts)
2. 2 SC in each st (12 sts)
3. *SC in st, 2 SC in next st* 6 times (18 sts)
4. *SC in 5 sts, 2 SC in next st* 3 times (21 sts)
5. *SC in 6 sts, 2 SC in next st* 3 times (24 sts). Tie leaves by pulling one strand through the middle hole and another strand through a hole from the second round.
