I had a wonderful time this past weekend. As expected, the Halifax Crafters Spring Show was creatively inspiring and exhausting. There were many new artisans present and many old favourites. I do not know the history of the group, but I greatly appreciate being included in their past five events. The group functions as a co-op. Vendors arrive early to help decorate (notice the pretty kites? They were made by the vendors) and organize the venue. At the end of the show, all the vendors help to tidy and put away tables and chairs. At first, I thought this was a great idea, as it keeps the table fees low. But after this last show, I began to appreciate this ritual as community building. Helping people set up pennants or stack chairs can be a great ice breaker.
