Sharp-Toothed Shark Amigurumi

I recently had a request for a Grandma Shark of the Pink Fong variety. The challenge was great, and here I am sharing a pattern for a toy shark. While it is not the Pink Fong Grandma Shark, it could certainly be easily altered to look more like one by moving the dorsal to the back of the head, using orange yarn instead of grey, and adding glasses.

Checkout my YouTube tutorials on Spike Stitch and Surface Crochet as both are used in this pattern.

Sharp-Toothed Shark Amigurumi Pattern

Materials

  • Approximately 1.5oz grey and 1oz white worsted weight yarn (size 4)
  • Small amount of black and red worsted weight yarn (size 4)
  • 3.25mm crochet hook (you can up to 4.5mm but finished project will be larger)
  • Yarn needle
  • Approximately 2oz stuffing
  • Scissors

Abbreviations

  • CH chain stitch
  • SC single crochet
  • SC2TOG single crochet 2 stitches together (decrease)
  • SL ST slip stitch
  • SP ST spike stitch

Notes

  • This pattern is full of colour changes. To make a colour change, in the last SC of the first colour, insert hook, draw up a loop. Two loop on hook. With the new colour complete the stitch by using the new yarn to yarn over and draw through both loops. This leaves one loop on the hook that is in the new colour.
  • Rows with colour changes are worked in the front loop only of the stitches below. This stops the colour changes from drifting to the right (if you crochet right handed), and keeps stitches directly on top of each other.
  • The Spike Stitch is basically a long SC that is worked a couple rows down and brought up to the top. See the tutorial video.
